Spectroplexus

Spectoplexus explores St. Louis' relationship to its surrounding rivers and how “Confluence” plays a unique role in the city as well as how it relates to the St Louis International Airport. This concept relates to the sites overwhelming flow of people from all around the world to one particular place within the city. This confluence of people is similar to how the Mississippi and Missouri River come together nearby. The geometry relates to this idea of movement and explores the idea of the diverse interactions that occur in the airport. The combination of linear and surface materials further explores the unique confluence that occurs in this particular site. The piece contains around 1,800 carbon fiber frames with dyed polycarbonate panels. This form of assembly alludes to the construction of an airplane and how it uses industrial materials to mimic the naturally occurring experience of flight. This idea of mechanical vs organic is further alluded to by the curved form which is created by linear geometry’s. The sculpture is handmade and is installed at Lambert International Airport Terminal 2.
