Individual Design and Construction

Surface My work is driven by a need to understand the mundane objects that we use every day. My sculpting process started as a means of reflecting on the environment where I grew up. I am originally from the Silicon Valley. Growing up in such a technology-driven region really brought into light the amount of work that goes into the materials we use every day. A computer is a complicated instrument that takes years of planning to create. If we as a culture can dedicate years into one commodity then how much effort do we place on something as simple as a tissue? My art serves as an illustration of this question.

I started out working with tissue simply because it is a medium that I could easily find. The first pieces that I created were my cube and hemisphere installations. I made this small series as a reflection on Donald Judd’s Untitled 1968 which is located in the Art Institute of Chicago. I love that this simple placement of ten boxes can command all your attention. After seeing this piece I started to create varying sizes of hemispheres in an attempt to recreate the experience that I had with Untitled 1969. My three cube installations were a more recent attempt at this theory.

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
